Masters
Education Degrees On-line
As we all know,
traditional
university learning has some advantages over on-line Master
Education degrees. First of all, there is real, person to
peson
interaction between students and with teachers. For many
people,
the depth of experience, skill aquisition and personal growth from the
experience of going to classes and working in person with others on
projects make traditional learning much more appealing than getting a
master Education degree on line. But it's a trade off, and
there
are some very real advantages to online ME degrees. More convenient,
more flexible, more compatible with a full time career, and much more
time-efficent.
Why such a
trend towards online masters Education degrees?
If the real goal of
an ME degree
is to help one be better prepared to teach, administer and consult in a
rofessional setting, it stands to reason that the best place to aquire
such a degree is immersed in a professional, academic educational
setting. And in an ideal world, that would be the case. But
the
reality is, for most peole seeking master Education degrees,
the
priority is to basically buy a piece of paper- with a lot of money and
hopefully not too much hard work- that will grant them a greater chance
at increased income and higher job position. There are those
who
enter a traditional or on line Masters of Education program because of
a deep love of learning and a yearning to learn more professionally.
It's natural that many people wouldn't have the position, and it's
natural that they would want more income and a better position.
But what it seems to be coming to, more and more, is growing
numbers of people simply jumping through the required hoops to get that
promotion or raise. Understandable, of course. But there are
few
professional educators who believe that an on line master of Education
degree is equal to one earned in a traditional setting (unless it's an
I.T. or similar program). Bottom line: Follow what works best
for
you. If you are looking for a piece of paper and it's
benefits,
find the cheapest, fastest and easiest way to get it. If you
are
looking for a way to really deepen your knowledge, as well as improve
your professional prospects, about a subject that fascinates you, try
the traditional approach instead of a distance learning master
Education degree. Either way, as long as it's a respected, accredited
masters program, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and relief
upon completion.
