Hybrid Cars Rebate Tax Credit: Tax Credits and Government Rebates for Hybrid Cars and Autos

 

You've probably heard about the hybrid vehicle tax credit.  Buyers of many models of hybrids vehicles can get a sizable tax credit, depending upon the make and model of the hybrid vehicle. SOme of hte hybrid tax rebates are large enough to almost completely make up the additional cost of the hybrid, leaving you to profit from the savings in gas. 

Some models of hybrid cars have already been eligible for tax deductions. But the new credits are better than deductions as they are subtracted directly from the money you owe the IRS, which results in more tax savings to you.. 

The new tax law covers diesels as well as hybrids, no diesel vehicles will get a tax rebate even though some get very high gas mileage.  The amount of the credit for each vehicle is dtermined by three different hybred factors:  1) how large is the vehicle.  2)  A vehicle could also get a smaller credit if it is estimated to save at least 1,200 gallons of fuel over its lifetime.   3) Hybrid autos are also required to  meet certain emissions standards to qualify for a tax credit, regardless of their fuel economy.  Some hibred cars and trucks may get better gas mileage but still have poorer emission ratings.  So all of these are factors to consider.  Most hybrid auto dealers can inform you on which autos qualify for the hybrid rebate, but be sure to verify their information from a source not trying to sell you a car!
